This hike is the Loop Trail, but rather than follow the loop, we came back the way we came. In my categories, this makes it “Lazy Easy” 🙂 On the ever present maps it’s a green trail, which is Easy
We were short of time with the car park shutting at 5pm and us turning up at 3pm, we decided not to risk getting the car locked in.
From Mountain Highway, make your way to Lynn Valley Rd. if driving. Easily accessible by bus (228 from Sea bus) after you get off the ferry to the North Shore. The bus station will be immediately in front of you.
Driving past Peters Place on the right continue on Lynn Valley Road. Peters Place is one of the bus stops, you can walk down there for hikes starting at the suspension bridge, also nice little restaurant and plenty of parking. But, we’ll go on up Lynn Valley Rd to a left hand bend, the road looks like it ends here with a great little cafe come shop on the left. The café is worth a visit my favorite, apple pie and ice cream. So don’t take the road round, just drive straight down the narrow road that leads to the Varley Trail. There are three car parks, you might want to resist parking right at the end, guess what, you’ll get there and it’ll be full, you’ll have to turn round. Well, all extra exercise is welcome:-)
The creek looks totally fresh as it passes underneath. Time given for the full Loop is around 2 hours, so half the loop is around an hour. What I love about this walk is it’s as attractive in the winter (if not more so in snow) as in the summer. I love the wooden bridges.
Not a bad idea to dress up warm, even though it’s just a short winter walk, the temperature can drop quickly in the afternoon.
You can follow the trail up to Norvan Falls and beyond, and that hike we’ll follow on another day. However on this short walk after about 5 kms there’s an opening Third Debris Chute. Go to the top and turn right for the Loop (not covered today), or just turn round and back to the car park. A nice easy quick walk! I didn’t have a dog for this walk but if I did, I would mind the company of this fellow – last photo 🙂
iIt looks lovely and maybe one day I will see it for myself
